THE ROUTE

BASOAK QUINTO NORTE is one of the most demanding versions of the BASOAK UNIVERSE. It is a route that focuses almost exclusively on the border area of the Navarrese Pyrenees, connecting the Irati Forest with the Baztan Valley through a truly unique administrative territory known as como QUINTO NORTE ... In its 4-stage option, it is a proposal that we label as 2xH, or what is the same; 2 nights per hotel; 2 nights in Baztan and 2 nights in the Roncesvalles. area
The difficulty of stage U (Baztan-Burguete) that arises logically because of the difference in altitude between the start and end point of the route (197 vs 893 ms) marks with its 2,100 meters of positive gradient the demanding sporting profile of the BASOAK QUINTO NORTE set.

At the western end, the optional stage L takes us into the lands of Xareta, lands generally known for housing the border towns of Urdax and Zugarramurdi. At the eastern end, the Irati Forest hardly needs an introduction, but in this proposal we include a version of the more demanding route than the usual ones in the area (stage D9), which with its 79 km and 1.715 of unevenness takes us, after crossing the Irati Forest almost entirely, to the summit of Okabe, a privileged balcony over the nearby summit of Ori and its 2,000 metres of altitude, the first summit to boast this altitude when we advance from the sea over the Atlantic Pyrenees.
A second option of circular stage D adds a possible fifth stage to the system that takes us into the Navarrese Pre-Pyrenees, a much more inhospitable territory than the Irati Forest and often unknown even to local bikers.

The experience offered by PIRINEOS PUNTO BIKE consists, in broad terms, of a Self-Guided Tour pack. This includes Accommodations, the GPS Tracks for the route, a detailed map-sketch with alternatives for each stage, and Luggage Transport from hotel to hotel.

Route in 2 x H format

We label some of our routes as 2 x H proposals when they are designed to offer a more relaxed logistical experience without compromising on the sporting intensity.
To achieve this, where the geography allows for high-quality routes in a single area, we stay 2 nights at each hotel and include a circular stage at each location.

This results in less hassle for both participants and hoteliers, and reduces the cost of luggage transport services, making the Pack more affordable, especially for smaller groups.

Profile-Basoak-MTB-D9

THE ROUTE IN PICTURES

"YouToo" pictures concept

For now, our trips are real - when they become virtual, we´ll let you know -. That´s why the photos we try to "seduce" with are photos we´ve allowed ourselves to classify as "YouToo", that is;
"You´ll be able to see it too".
Not only is there no AI in our photo or video album, but we also avoid the use of special effects, time-lapse cameras with hurricane-like skies, and the use of drones except for some geographical topics where they serve to enhance the information we want to convey. At the moment, we don´t have any proposals that include trips by plane or helicopter...We travel with the wheel on the ground... and from that position on the ground we took the photos shown here.

If you have doubts, do not hesitate and use some of the buttons below, we respond quickly.

In the rural world that our routes run through, hotel establishments are usually small. It is often difficult to book the sequence of accommodations necessary to complete a Pack, especially if the number of participants in a group is a bit high.

Booking in advance is often the key. It is not a commercial trick on our part. Many times, that reservation with enough time in advance is simply the difference between being able or not being able to reserve the Pack.

  • Bicycle rental
We put you in touch with a rental service in the nearest place to the route start point
  • Hire Asistance / Accident Insurance
and / or Trip Cancellation Insurance
  • Best time to go: The route can be done once the snow disappears in the highest mountains of the route. From there, we dare not say that one era is better than another. It really depends on the specific weather of the days we choose.
Do not underestimate the weather, not even in the middle of summer. The conditions -especially in the Pyrenees- can be identical to those of the Central Pyrenees. To summarize... our advice is: bring even the long culotte and if it doesn´t come out from the suitcase, all the better.
In summer it is necessary to be aware of the possibility of storms -frequent in the afternoons-.
  • Type of tracks: Paths and tracks with more physical than technical demands, both uphill and downhill. The "singletracks" selected from the MTB Centres through which the route passes are usually blue level. Sometimes they can be red, but it is always a temporary and avoidable difficulty. To summarise, we can say that the aim is to make the paths have "flow" while avoiding the "enduro" concept as much as possible.".
For technically demanding sections - which sometimes exist - when possible we offer alternative tracks, although the easiest way to avoid distorting the route is to get off the bike.
  • Ideal bike: Preferably a dual suspension MTB bike.
  • Orientation: The route must be followed with a GPS device or with the mobile phone App that you are used to using for the same purpose.
It is not advisable to try to learn how to use an App on the fly.
We do not provide Apps or GPS user manuals. It is up to the users to have this knowledge.
       There is no on-site signage.
  • Ciclability: Depending on the technical skills and strength of each person, the route is 98%.
  • Provisioning: Although we sometimes find refreshment points, depending on the time of year we may find that some establishments are closed. The documentation we provide at the start of the route provides information on the options at each stage.

How to Hire - In Short -

Okay, you´ve got it clear, you´ve analyzed the proposal, the rates seem appropriate, and you´ve decided that this is going to be your route.
The next thing that comes to mind is What should I do now? What are the next steps I have to take to book the trip?
In short, it would be this:
Contact us in the way you prefer from any of the contact options we provide.
Tell us the day you would like to take the trip,
the day of the first stage by bike,
the number of people in the group,
the route in question, indicating the number of stages when this is optional,
the information on whether anyone in the group requests a single room,
and the information on whether it is necessary to add a night at the end(in the event that this last night is not included by default)

When we receive this information, we will send you a pre-reservation document with the program and the details for paying the deposit. We request this to begin the hotel reservation process. Once we receive the deposit, we will block the rooms and send you a firm reservation. If there is no hotel availability, we will look for alternatives, and if none are available or you don´t find them suitable, we will fully refund the deposit amount.

The document we send you will indicate the deadline for payment of the complete package (usually 15 days before the start of the trip)
Oh! And until that day arrives, it´s a good idea to train.

If you have doubts, do not hesitate and use some of the buttons below, we respond quickly.
